| The Disciple series started as a Methodist adult Bible study program but is now used by many Protestant denominations. It is an effective way to bring Bible study to adults who have not read more than the lessons presented in Sunday service. The course is 34 weeks long and is a life-changing experience. The "red" book--Disciple 1--involves a commitment of time. The study is done in community, that is in a group meeting once a week, and there is homework! There is no denominational bias in its structure. NOTE: Obtain a study Bible, one with good notes. Disciple 1 is one of those life situations where the sum is greater than the whole. There is more to gain by studying the Bible in community than alone. The objectives are to gain a better understanding of the Bible, to be able to explain faith and our collective history as people of God; and understand the relationship God wants to have with us. God's standard for living is simple; He wants us to live life and live it abundantly; His rules are simple but demanding. The "green" book and other colors are second through fifth year study.
