Made 6 — +990

Lead: three of hearts

If East had not overcalled West would not have led the low heart, instead leading the queen of spades the natural lead; and South would have been toast. South plays a spade, East takes the ace, then leads back the nine of spades. South claims, having six clubs, four hearts and the two outside aces. One adventurous North ended up in 7C down one after asking for aces (not sure why). Another poor South ended up in 3H down three!

6 ♠ by West

Lead: king of clubs

This was a nice cuebidding sequence that could have ended up in seven spades down one; declarer's tendency is to go to the king and come back to the ace, down one.

6 NT by North

Made 7 — +1470

Lead: ten of diamonds

North has 14 tricks off the top; seventeen if the hearts break! Six diamonds was bid, making 7; and six hearts would have made six if they had been bid.
